How Red Flag Follows works, and what it can’t do
Updated October 14, 2026
The short answer
Red Flag Follows (redflagfollows.app) shows the accounts a public Instagram or TikTok profile followed most recently, newest first: up to the last 200 on Instagram and 100 on TikTok. It only reads public data, never asks for a login or password, and the account you check is never told.
Where does the data come from?
From the account’s public following list. We read it through specialist data providers that collect public Instagram and TikTok profile data. We never log in to the account you check or to yours, and we never follow, like or message anyone.
That’s why it only works on public accounts: if Instagram or TikTok doesn’t show a list to the public, we can’t see it either.
How recent is it?
- A check fetches the account’s following list when you run it. Results are kept for 24 hours, so a second check that day shows the same list.
- Subscribers can refresh an account they’ve checked once an hour with “Check again for new follows”.
- With alerts on, we re-check one account every 2 hours and email you when it follows someone new.
How far back does it go?
Up to the 200 most recent follows on Instagram and the 100 most recent on TikTok, newest first. We show the order they followed in, not the exact date: neither Instagram nor TikTok publishes when a follow happened. With alerts on, new follows appear in your account as we find them.
Did Instagram’s September 2026 change affect it?
No. Around 9 September 2026, Instagram changed how its app and website load other people’s follower and following lists, and some tools that read lists that way say they can no longer show follows in order.
Red Flag Follows reads Instagram following data from a source that still returns follows newest first. We re-tested it on 6 October 2026: a test account followed two accounts in a known order, and they came back in that order.
How are accounts sorted into women, men and others?
An AI model looks at each followed account’s public handle, name and photo (and bio on TikTok) and labels it a woman, a man, or other: brands, meme pages, fan accounts. When it isn’t confident, the account goes in Others, so we don’t wrongly claim someone followed a woman or a man.
It’s a guess from public information, so it can be wrong. It isn’t a statement about anyone’s identity.
What can’t it do?
- See private accounts, or a TikTok following list set to Only me.
- Show the exact date or time of a follow.
- Go further back than the last 200 Instagram or 100 TikTok follows.
- Show likes, comments, messages, story views or who someone talks to.
- Alert you about unfollows. Alerts are for new follows only.
Will the account I check know?
No. You only type a username. We don’t use your Instagram or TikTok account, and we never contact the account you check, so nothing shows up on their side, including TikTok’s profile view history.
Do I ever need to give you my password?
No, never. You don’t need an Instagram or TikTok account at all. Any app that asks for your social media password to show you public information is putting your account at risk.
What do you keep about me?
Your email if you unlock results or sign in, the accounts you’ve checked, and your subscription status. Payments go through Stripe, so we never see your card number. We don’t sell your data or share your searches. The details are in our privacy policy.
What does it cost?
The first checks are free and show how many women, men and others an account followed recently. The full list with names, photos and profile links, unlimited checks and alerts cost $7.99 a week. Cancel anytime from your account page.
Who runs it?
Red Flag Follows is an independent service. It isn’t affiliated with Instagram, TikTok, Meta or ByteDance. Questions go to our contact page.
